Federal-Mogul is the preeminent manufacturer and supplier of light-vehicle disc brake pads. In the braking process, a conversion of kinetic energy into heat occurs between the friction material and the brake disc. The development goal is to reach a minimum of diversification in a wide range of influences, such as pressure, speed, temperature and environment.
Our light-vehicle disc brake pad assembly consists of:
- A friction material developed and tested to suit the application
- An underlayer, which is a layer of different friction material placed between the backplate and friction material to improve strength, thermal barrier, corrosion resistance, noise performance or a combination of these conditions
- The backplate, which supports and locates the friction material in the caliper
- A rubber-metal laminated shim developed to suppress noise
The friction material may have a single slot, a multiple-slot configuration or chamfers machined into the surface to prevent noise.
Our hydraulic disc brake pads come in three varieties: Non-Asbestos Organic-Ceramic (NAO), low steel and semimetallic.
